  • At this point of deferred maintenance (years) the government should be able to come in and correct the problem by force because at this point people’s lives are endangered. Just like with Texas’s unprotected electrical grid. Which actually caused people to die. How many times will you tell your kid to clean their room before you put your foot down? ...Before or after the mold from the old half eaten food becomes toxic to the rest of the house.

  • Deregulation makes it so much easier for corporations to profit...and the rest of us pay for it. They were literally like, “well this is happening. There’s nothing we can do about it” it will likely kill everything in Tampa Bay. Deregulation because the lack of oversight is the only thing that could have led to this.

  • Francesca got it wrong. It isnt cattle poo. (Manure) It is man made phosphates. “Organic fertilizers such as manures, compost or bone meal are derived directly from plant or animal sources, according to Ross Penhallegon, horticulturist with the Oregon State University Extension Service. Inorganic fertilizers such as ammonium sulfate or ammonium phosphate are often called commercial or synthetic fertilizers because they go through a manufacturing process, although many of them come from naturally occurring mineral deposits. Inorganic fertilizers usually contain only a few nutrients - generally nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulfur and sometimes micronutrients, either singly or in combination. These nutrients are in a form readily available to plants. However, since they are lost from the soil quickly, you may have to fertilize plants several times during the growing season unless you use a specially formulated, slow-release type.” City chick thinks it is just cattle manure, and calls it piles of poo, and has no clue.

  • People deal with lightly radioactive things every day. The concrete you walk on/build with is lightly toxic. The yummy banana is radioactive enough to have once set off the detectors when a truck delivering its cargo was pulled over by the authorities who thought there was a dirty bomb on board. Everything in existence is radioactive to a certain point just where that point is will be the crux of the problem.

  • Keep in mind this was a place no longer in business for - if I'm not mistaken for the past 10 years. So who has been responsible for this site, and the neglect? I found the following online: (Piney Point is an abandoned phosphate plant located north of Palmetto, in Manatee County, near the coastline of lower Tampa Bay. The plant was built in 1966 and produced fertilizer for decades until it was officially abandoned by Mulberry Corporation in 2001) DeSantis said it's not radioactive, and yet it is. It's just like him to lie, but of course, he lied about Covid why wouldn't he lie about this too? This is what these politicians here in Florida do - LiE to cover there a$$ and who pays for it? Residents with our lives ! I know I never voted for him, or any of the other liars currently in office in Florida - Repugs . Yet, they seem somehow to make it in every year. Sickening.

  • It's not giant stscks of poo, it's byproduct from processing limestone to get the phosphates. Florida phosphates create fertilizer that is used to grow food all over the world. Yeah, they so it for money, but it helps feed the world. They should be responsible for their waste. This is run away capitalism where they will socialize the liability and consequences and privatize all the profits. More republican bullshit.

To illustrate how bad the situation is, if we completely stopped using chemical fertilizers, about 1/2 of all humans would die of starvation within a year.
