  • I worked 22 years 6-7 days a week,12-18 hour days. I now work 4/10’s this is so relaxing. I work harder, when it gets old the week is finished. I wish I would’ve done this 22 years ago. My pay would’ve been more in the end at this job, than I made at the last job. Starting over at 40 what a shame!

    Ja'Quarius WashintonJa'Quarius Washinton5 ditë më parë
    • @Dudelsackpfeifer Right, but if you want to be "anti-racist" or "dismantle white supremacy" you guys should be idolizing black or brown countries. You can't have infinity brown people AND the comforts of a white nation. I dont know why people find it so hard to believe that a country full of mexicans and africans will *shockingly* look more like one of those countries.

      Ja'Quarius WashintonJa'Quarius WashintonDitë më parë
    • @Ja'Quarius Washinton Just to be clear, I'm not German. But I'd feel far safer in Germany than in the states. Anyway, I didn't defend or criticise Germany's immigration or refugee policies, I was merely pointing them out because you called Germany a white country when often you hear people adding a -stan suffix to the European countries that you're saying the left is obsessed with, an assertion that I'm not necessarily disagreeing with, because I think the states and Canada can learn a lot from them, even though that does not necessarily mean we can't do things our own way.

      DudelsackpfeiferDudelsackpfeifer4 ditë më parë
    • @Dudelsackpfeifer Yes, but if diversity is such a noble and worthy cause, you guys should want to sacrifice the trappings of a safe and affluent white country for it. "Diversity for thee but not for me" There isn't magic dirt in European countries, a nation is a reflection of the people that inhabit it.

    • Well, colonialism's effects don't stop when colonialism does, so unfortunately the countries that were colonised generally don't do as well, and in many but not all cases it was african and asian countries that were colonised. I feel like you think you've come up with some gotcha question to embarrass liberals but really if you look at the history you'll arrive at something else entirely. Also it's interesting how social conservatives usually disparage Germany's immigration and refugee policies, and now suddenly everyone in the comments is saying how Germany is so white.

  • Some companies in Germany already have a four day work week. But this also means you regularly work on weekends and you usually can not have a day off. This contract however is not mandatory for the company, it just allows it in general and it also affects mainly facilities and services that run 24/7.

    CaitieCaitie5 ditë më parë
    • It also means that you work on weekends almost as often as on other days. It has some downsides. And you usually can´t get a working day off, come in later or leave earlier unless it is absolutely unavoidable. It is expected that you can make any doctor´s appointments, court dates, or whatever on one of your days off. Other than that you need to switch with a college and give notice weeks ahead. It also means your three days off can be on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Adam AbeleAdam Abele5 ditë më parë
  • Problem with this is it doesn't work across industry. The small businessman running a barber shop or floral shop can't open just four days a week. It creates inequality I the workforce. To be honest the pendulum has swung so far in favor of trade workers that they are now over valued. Go back 20 years and they were neglected in pay, safety, job security etc. But today (due to trade union and fighting for equality) they now have insane amount of worker privileges a lot of other industry could never maintain. Are we now going to have 4 days of school so teachers are going to have the 5th day off too? What about emergency services? Etc. Maybe I'm wrong just my opinion.

    R. B.R. B.5 ditë më parë
    • There is a difference between the service provider and those providing them. You don't have to take the same classes daily. Block schedules also work. You can have multiple teachers for the classes. Same with emergency services. You can have multiple providers.

But it is also true that in every workplace, there are always few people who are willing to give it 100% each day, even Friday. And those are the people who get promotion and raises. If some people want to slack off on a Friday, that is their choice. But I do not think it is right to ask other people to slack off with them. Also, if you choose to slack off, do not complain when you never get that promotion; or be the first to let go when economy is bad. Finally, in a 5-day work week, people slack off on a Friday. But even if you reduce it to a 4-day work week, wouldn't people start to slack off on Wednesday, since Thursday is now the new Friday? Would we then just implement a 3-day work week?

And we have to employ more doctors and nurses at our hospitals to do the same amount of healthcare. I would love to have a 4-day workweek, but can we really afford it? Most coundrties today are already keeping their economies floating by borrowed money (even China and USA). So if we shall do that we need to make rich people start paying their taxes and stop people from abusing the wellfare system (which they actually do)

Because most employers won't give you a rais, and if you get better at your job and it takes you less time to finish your work, you now make less for being better at your job. I'm also going to be working to end minimum income requirements for housing. I will try to end background checks for employment and housing. • We have the option of 4 day workweeks at my job but it’s still 4 10s. The flexibility is definitely better but those are such long days you can’t really do much else, and if it wasn’t telecommuting it’d really be the entire day likely not even enough time to cook dinner. What we really need is less working hours. 40 a week is unnecessarily high and the data supports that less is optimal, that workers produce more or the same at like 30-35 hours a week

  • 4 day work weeks are good for the environment and reduce wear on infrastructure because less times people have to commute. But many US jobs already have this, you just have to work 10 instead of 8 hours a day, or get paid less. We should have a tax penalty on businesses that make people commute to do desk work that could be done from home.

    YankeeSpiritYankeeSpirit7 ditë më parë
    • I agree. If you can easily do your work from home, it is only a burden on the environment, traffic, and people to go in to an office. It is a waste of money and infrastructure for the companies too. I don't see why more companies don't see the profit they would save if more telecommuting were allowed.

The Burn Loot Murder ChannelThe Burn Loot Murder Channel7 ditë më parë
    • You need to take the costs of living and general expenses into account. Americans often act as if states/government just collect taxes and then sit on the money or spend it on blow and hookers for the politicians. They also often seem to think that streets, electricity, plumbing, water etc. (this "etc." including free healthcare in many countries) would just magically exist even without taxes.

Thats possible for family reasons only (taking care of kids or elderly family member) and its 2 year period , then its back to that nasty 35 h workweek Employer cant block worker to use 28h workweek , but the deal also makes it possible for people to do longer 40h workweek ... pay do follow the hours done .
